1Samuel 17:36 “Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.”

1Samuel 17:37 “David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go and the LORD be with thee.”

2) GOD IS A GOD OF CIRCUMCISION OR COVENANT: The second thing young David showed us about God is that He is a God of circumcision. David called Goliath an “uncircumcised Philistine”, that was awesome.

What David was saying invariably is that, Goliath is uncircumcised making him a man without covenant. Circumcision is what ratified the covenant, our covenant in Christ.

Genesis 17:13 “He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.”

Genesis 17:14 “And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.”

I believe strongly that David was simply standing on Genesis 17:13 & 14 when he made that statement. That boy must have read those scriptures like a million times. He knew what circumcision represents to God and man. How I wish this truth can sink deep into you as well!

In the New Testament, which typifies our days, circumcision is no longer about cutting the male foreskin, it simply means being BORN AGAIN.

Romans 2:28 “For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:”

Romans 2:29 “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.”
