DON’T MAGNIFY THE ENEMY-2
DON’T MAGNIFY THE ENEMY-2
1Samuel 17:4 “A giant nearly ten feet tall stepped out from the Philistine line into the open, Goliath from Gath.”
1Samuel 17:5 “He had a bronze helmet on his head and was dressed in armor–126 pounds of it!”
1Samuel 17:7 “His spear was like a fence rail–the spear tip alone weighed over fifteen pounds. His shield bearer walked ahead of him.”(MSG)
…From yesterday…
Many of us blame King Saul, Eliab and the other soldiers for not confronting Goliath allowing a little boy to do the job, but the truth is that many believers run away from similar “Goliaths” daily without thinking.
I heard the story of a lecturer who announced to a set of fresh students in his class that people normally fail his course and the highest grade has been a “C”. At the end of the semester, a student got an “A” and it was discovered he was not in the first class where the lecturer made the pronouncement.
Beloved, don’t let the size of the enemy intimidate you. There is actually nothing wrong in knowing about the enemy, what will be very wrong however, is knowing more about the enemy than God!
In our focal scripture, we were given an intimidating curriculum vitae of Goliath, and I believe it must have been circulated among the troops before they even saw the man. Sighting him only made the matter worse.
Friend, rather than describe the enemy to God, describe God to the enemy. In the critical battles of life, who you know matters a lot. The more you know about God the better for you!
Sadly, throughout the whole story in 1Samuel 17, it was only David who spoke about God. Nobody seem to know there is a God that has once helped Israel to conquer nations.
Hear them describing the enemy to David:
1Samuel 17:25 “And the men of Israel said Have ye seen this man that is come up surely to defy Israel is he come up…”
