Luke 7:13 “And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.”
The Levite on the other hand demonstrated what I call sympathy. He also saw the injured man, came near to him, pitied him but also went away. That was sympathy and may I tell you this; the best a sympathizer will do for you is to say “sorry” and turn away. If you are looking for a “pity party” or organizing one, you will end up been disappointed.
The Good Samaritan on the other hand, came by, saw the same situation, assessed it, came down from his donkey, gave first aid and then took the injured man to the hospital. He made the payment for his treatment and offered to pay more if need be.
These three personalities saw the same situation but acted differently. Friend, we have all been in this situation at one time or the other and has taken one of these positions; the truth however is that, the position we took has an effect on the responses we are getting from life and the ones we will keep getting.
A wise man said, “Our response to another in need determines God’s response to us when we are in need.”
The response we demonstrate is a seed and know this; we may not reap when we sow but we will definitely reap what we sow! Hear this:
Psalms 41:1 “Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.”
Psalms 41:2 “The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies”
David buttressed this fact and he showed us what we stand to gain when we show compassion. He showed us that when you show compassion, you stand to gain deliverance, preservation, safety from death, blessings and also; the plan of the enemy is neutralized over you.
