Luke 7:1 “Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.”

Luke 7:2 “And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die”

We discovered from our yesterday’s meditation that the word Capernaum from the Greek means “Village of comfort”, “be or make comfortable”, or “be at ease”. It is a place of comfort where everything difficult should be easy.

In our focal scripture however, a centurion’s servant was sick. This servant was in Capernaum and was very sick even to the point of death. Put differently, he was having discomfort in a place of comfort.

It is possible to be in a comfortable place and experience discomfort. The mission of the devil is always to make the life of a man miserable. The devil is always prowling and waiting to strike and steal from us. Hear this:

John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal and to kill and to destroy I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

The devil’s mission is always to steal, kill and destroy. In this case, he stole the health of the centurion’s servant, destroyed his person and was set to kill him. Friend, even though you’re in Capernaum you must take your stand against the onslaught of the devil. You must know that the devil as our arc-enemy will never want us to enjoy the comfort of Capernaum and so we must take sides with Jesus.

John 10:10 shows us that despite the attacks of the enemy, there is safety, preservation and protection for us in Jesus.

John 10:10 “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Friend, you cannot afford to live your life outside Christ. The devil came to kill while Christ came to make alive and keep alive. Christ came to give us a super-abundant life. Hear this:

Acts 17:28 “For in him we live and move and have our being…”
