Exodus 17:13 “And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.”

Our focal scripture tells us that after strict obedience to the instruction of Moses, Joshua eventually defeated the Amalekites. I however want us to consider carefully the mode of the victory.

It is said that, “Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.” In order words, he won the battle using the edge of the sword. I want you to know that “the sword” here is deeper than a mere physical weapon. The sword is the word of God:

Ephesians 6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is THE WORD OF GOD:”

Friend, you will never win the battles of life without becoming a skillful user of the sword, your life hinges on it. The word of God is God Himself, so when you release the Word, you permit God to act on your behalf.

Notice that the bible didn’t say he used the sword only but rather the edge of the sword, that’s another thing you must master. You must understand “the sword” and “the edge of the sword”.

The sword is the word of God but what is the edge of the sword? The Greek word for mouth is “stoma” and guess the meaning? Stoma simply means “the front or edge of a sword or weapon”. That’s quite interesting.

Putting the two together simply means; Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people by putting the word of God in his mouth! You will never go far in life without understanding this principle.

A victorious Christian is one who has mastered the act of speaking the word of God constantly to situations and circumstances. Hear this:

Luke 21:15 “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist”

Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Friend, it’s high time you start using your “stoma”, therein lies your victory!

Love you BiG
