Exodus 17: 10 “So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.”
The statement that really caught my attention in our focal scripture is, “So Joshua did as Moses had said to him…” The bane of many believers is their inability to carry out instructions to the letter.
Many people hear instructions but refuse to carry it out the way it was told them. There are different types of obedience but only one gets rewarded. That’s the one I call FULL OBEDIENCE. It is what was demonstrated here by Joshua.
Permit me to share with you different types of obedience:
1. DELAYED OBEDIENCE
Luke 9:59 “And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.”
Luke 9:61 “And another also said Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell which are at home at my house.”
This form of obedience is what is been demonstrated by many modern day believers. They heard God, they understand the instruction but they will always wait till later before doing it. These folks are always busy and will want to be through with other things before they carry out the instruction.
This is called delayed obedience. In Luke 9, Jesus called out to these folks, asking them to follow him. They agreed quite alright but will do it later. This form of obedience is usually caused by procrastination. Procrastination is the “I will do it later, I will do it later” syndrome.
Friend, every instruction from God requires promptness. Moses asked Joshua to choose men and go to battle, and he responded accordingly. Can you imagine what would have happened if Joshua had delayed for another day? Your guess is as good as mine, the enemy would’ve overrun them.
I implore you to quit every form of delay and set about your assignment. Don’t wait till it is too late, set about obeying that instruction NOW!
To be continued…
