4. A SOFT & CONTRITE HEART
I’ve met a lot of people who refused to change their minds or hearts till they perish. One thing that is constant in life is change. Principles don’t change but methods do. If you’re such that has sworn that you don’t change your mind, then I submit to you that you’ll be too rigid for God to work with.
A contrite heart is one that repents or changes when it discovers error and we see that in the life of David.
Psalms 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise”
5. A HUMBLE HEART
Isaiah 57:15 “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones”
Humility is a quality that draws a man to God, the way metal is attracted to magnet. A humble man is one that God can easily give instructions knowing full well he will carry it out to the letter. Many people are around God but He knows when He give them instructions they’ll analyse it and even question Him. This was the great difference between King Saul and David. God cannot behold pride and arrogance!
2Chronicles 34:27 “Because thine heart was tender and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.”
Can you imagine God’s response to a humble heart?
