Exodus 17:9 “And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.”

…From yesterday…

When Moses instructed Joshua, the young man didn’t argue, he went to work immediately, following the instruction of his mentor to the letter. One challenge we have in Christendom and even in secular work these days are folks who never want to be mentored.

Many young folks feel they can do it all by themselves and don’t need a guide. Friend, the gist is this, you may be able to do it all by yourself but you will never do it as fast as someone who is being mentored! In the race of life direction and speed is critical.

At forty five Moses was also being mentored by Jethro but he didn’t start fulfilling destiny until he was eighty. Joshua listened to Moses and by that same age of forty five he was already winning battles and fulfilling destiny. Mentoring gives us speed and accuracy.

Paul had protégées such as Timothy and Titus. He instructed them thus:

2Timothy 2:2 “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”

He told Timothy expressly that it must not die with him. He instructed him to go ahead and produce other protégées as well. I discovered mentoring was one of the reasons why God chose and trusted Abraham so much.

Genesis 18:19 “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD…”

God was so sure that Abraham will be a great mentor so He entrusted His future plans to him. The question is this: Who is your mentor? Who are you mentoring? Are you a cooperative protégée?

You will never live long enough to make all the mistakes and learn from them, why not simply learn from the mistakes of another?
