WHY JOSHUA?

WHY JOSHUA?
Exodus 17:9 “And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.”

While studying the Israelites adventure from Egypt all the way to Canaan, there were some outstanding individuals that Moses could have turned to; we had men like Caleb, Hur, Bezaleel and others.

Moses eventually went up to the mountain with his brother, Priest Aaron and Hur but the question that came up in my mind was, why turn to Joshua first? Joshua was not a priest like Aaron or a prophetess like Mariam but yet he was Moses’ first point of call.

I then got the answer when I discovered that the name Joshua is a Hebrew name meaning “Jehovah is salvation” or Jehovah is Help”. It is the same name in the Greek called Jesus. Joshua is Jesus!

Put differently, our focal scripture can be written as “And Moses called out to JESUS”. Moses knew that the smart thing to do was to give a call to the savior. If Jesus didn’t step in at that time they could all perish. Moses simply told “Jesus” to take the lead and select others.

Friend, when situations of life throws a fight at you; Who is your first point of call? Do you allow Jesus take the lead or you take matters into your own hands? Those are food for thought.

Moses and the children of Israel were confronted by a sudden, unexpected attack and they simply turn to Jesus. The man Jesus is the Saviour and Helper. He is Salvation. He doesn’t just save us from enemies, he saves and delivers from sin, sickness, hatred, debt, poverty, limitations, doubt and fear.

David said:

Psalms 18:2 “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer my God, my strength, in whom I will trust my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”

Jesus has never failed anyone and he won’t start with you!
