Exodus 17:8 “Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.”

Friend, I want you to understand and take note of another danger in spiritual warfare. Many times we let down our guards and the enemy simply waits for such moments to pounce.

Why did the Amalekites fight them at Rephidim are not somewhere else? What’s the strategy here?

The strategy of the enemy is what I call the “Rephidim trap”. The Hebrew meaning of the word “Rephidim” is “Resting places”. The term rest connotes a time when a man relax and settles down. A time when a man sleeps and let’s down his guard.

Not physical rest or sleep but spiritual rest and slumber. Immediately after drinking from the Rock, we are to get about fulfilling our call and assignment.

John 4:28 “The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,”

John 4:29 “Come see a man, which told me all things that ever I did is not this the Christ?”

John 4:39 “And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman…”

Here is a classic example of a woman who drank from the same rock; Jesus Christ and immediately ran into the city fulfilling purpose. She went about her assignment with vigour and zeal unlike the Israelites who drank and went camping!

Friend, you cannot afford to drink and settle in Rephidim, the devil our arch enemy is going about waiting for us to relax so he can attack. Don’t wait for the enemy to attack before you move and make progress.

The enemy is always on the move, going to and fro; we cannot afford to switch into a spiritual slumbering mode. God knew this and warned Israel expressly:

Amos 6:1 “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion…”

Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way”

Considering these two scriptures, we’ll discover some dangers in a man taking a spiritual nap.

To be continued…

Love you BiG
