VALLEY DWELLERS

VALLEY DWELLERS
Exodus 17:8 “Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.”

In warfare a good knowledge of the enemy helps prepare us against their onslaught. No soldier goes to war without an idea of the strategy of his enemy. It will be disastrous to go to a gun battle holding a knife.

The Hebrew word “Amalek” simply means “dwellers in the valley”. These are the folks who are “small thinkers” and low level people. Folks who are satisfied with little and are born mediocre.

The major challenge however is that they want to drag us down and keep us at their level. They are not aspiring for much but will want us to be like them. These are the folks that gets threatened when you share your dreams and aspirations.

They are the replicas of the “brothers of Joseph”. The brothers of Joseph were Israelites but they have the Amalek mentality. The spirit of Amalek can infect anyone who is careless with his desires in life.

The brothers of Joseph were all farmers, same with their father and grandfather. When Joseph told them his dream was to become a ruler and administrator they fought tooth and nail to keep him down. They couldn’t just understand why he won’t continue being a “peasant farmer”.

The Amalekites are those folks who are afraid of doing or trying something new. They’re scared of standing out. They are only comfortable within the crowd. They are the “play it safe” kind of people.

These are men of the valley who don’t want to get to the mountain top. If you tag along and listen to them, you will be confined to the valley. Hear this:

Deutronomy 32:13 “He made him ride on the high places of the earth…”

2Samuel 22:34 “He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.”

Beloved, the agenda of God for our lives is the high places of the earth. I want you to know that anything that works antithesis to this is an Amalek.

Don’t let them drag you down. Selah!
