Job 18:10 “The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.”

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” (GNT)

Another reason why many develop mediocrity is what I call mindset. Mindset is simply the way a man has “set” or condition his mind. This is usually due to our backgrounds and the way we were brought up.

Our thought pattern and minds have been trained to think in a particular way. This limits many and simply put a lid on their vision and aspirations. Hear this:

Numbers 11:5 “We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:”

The mindset of the children of Israel was the reason why many died in the wilderness and why a journey of eleven days was delayed for forty years! In the above scripture they were finding it difficult to let go of the Egyptian experience at the expense of a more glorious Promised Land.

They were satisfied with the Egyptian stuff which kept them in slavery for four hundred and thirty years. Several times on the trip they kept thinking about Egypt. They wouldn’t mind returning there and stay there eating fish, cucumbers, melons and so on.

That is a slavery mentality. I have since discovered that many people in life will never amount to anything great because they are satisfied with the little and the stipends at hand.

Many are afraid to leave the “shore”, forgetting that if you don’t develop the courage to leave the shore, you will never discover new lands and better horizons.

Friend, there is a far more excellent place in store for you in destiny, if only you will forget about the onions and garlicks of Egypt. Hear this:

Deuteronomy 8:8 “A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;”
