Job 18:10 “The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.”

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” (GNT)

Mediocrity is another pitfall the enemy lays on the way of the believer. This pitfall is so deadly in that many of us have become its prey in one area of life or the other.

The word mediocrity simply means believing that something is adequate or acceptable, but not very good or not necessarily the best. It is a state of averageness, lukewarmness, weakness or ordinariness. This is the syndrome of “anything goes” once it is acceptable.

Mediocrity is an enemy of excellence. What makes it so bad is that many people are in this category and as such we can easily find solace in a friend or brother who is also suffering from it.
Mediocrity is also a man showing little enthusiasm; having little interest, support, or conviction. This is completely antithesis to the will and intention of God for our lives.

Our God is an excellent God and will not do things half-way. He starts things to complete them and to also complete them in grand style. Everything about God is excellent. There is no mediocrity in him.

Hear Him:
Genesis 1:31 “And God saw every thing that he had made and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

Starting from Genesis God showed us that He was a man addicted to excellence. After creation He looked back at the created world and calls it “very good”. He didn’t look back and just say the things are “ok” or “manageable”, He said they are “excellent”.

God didn’t create anything average, it is man that has introduced the concept of averageness or mediocrity. Can you imagine God creating a man with just one leg or with incomplete body parts? Can you imagine the world without a functional eco system?
