PITFALLS-1
PITFALLS-1
Job 18:10 “The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.”
Psalms 142:3 “When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.”
In this meditation we are going to be considering what I call pitfalls or snares on the path of the believer. There are so many of them laid on our paths as we travel on this side of eternity, and been conscious of them will go a long way in determining how we end our journey.
Pitfall can be defined as a potential problem, hazard, or danger that is easily encountered but not immediately obvious. It is a potential disaster that is usually unanticipated. Pitfall is a disguised and deeply concealed hole in the ground intended and acting as trap.
I remember once reading the tale of a very powerful warrior. He won several battles for his kingdom and was recognized worldwide. After a while, he decided he want to be king despite the presence of a sitting king. He eventually succeeded in killing several chiefs and king makers but the king was able to escape away to a neighboring town.
The great warrior then forced the king makers to make him king by issuing them threats. A day was fixed for the coronation and everybody in the kingdom was forced to pay obeisance to him. The deposed king then hatched a plan with the king makers. They dug a very deep pit and set the throne on it. The throne was beautifully decorated adorned with the best ornaments money can buy.
The D-day came and he was decorated and finally asked to sit on the throne. The throne was attractive and the ceremony was well organized. The warrior then climbed up and sat on the throne, but immediately he sat down, the throne caved in and he fell into the carefully concealed pit and to his death.
Such is the power of a pitfall!
