2 Kings 4:1 “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.”
This dead son of the prophet was just a son of the prophet by title but not in reality and practically. I’ve met some Christians who go to church but never believe their pastor or spiritual head.
To them church is just somewhere to go on Sunday as a religious concern. They don’t see church as a spiritual school and a place of receiving instructions and directions for life and destiny.
I want to believe this was one of the things that killed this prophet in training. He was probably close to Elisha and ran errands for him based on what the wife said but it’s obvious he had very little regard for his boss.
Friend, what is your disposition towards your spiritual head? Do you trust him or her? Do you obey him? Do you tell him your problems, fears and challenges?
I once heard a man tell his pastor, that,”Sir with all humility and due respect, you are a pastor and I am a business man, you know your job as a pastor and I know mine as a business man. This is my business not church”.
What he said seems logical and reasonable in the sense realm but he has forgotten that there is nothing physical without a spiritual root. His pastor watched on as the man eventually failed woefully.
I want to believe that was the mindset of that son of a prophet. He felt his boss (Elisha) was anointed and knowledgeable in the things of the spirit but not in financial matters.
He probably believed the creditors more than his man of God. But unfortunately for him, these were no ordinary creditors, they were demonic agents who beguiled him, seduced him and not just led him astray but led him to his death!
Beware of where you go to seek counsel and help!
