2 Kings 4:1 “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.”

In this meditation, we are going to be picking lessons from the experiences of the wife of a late prophet and her dealings with Elisha.

This is a very beautiful story that looks like an irony. This woman went to her late husband’s boss to complain about the creditors that wanted taking her two sons after the demise of the prophet (her husband).

The sad part of this story is that the late prophet feared the Lord. We can also infer that he was born again. He was well known to his pastor, he runs around and does things in the church but was broke and a debtor.

Friend, I saw something strange here; you can be born again and tongue talking but yet be suffering under the bondage of the devil. The devil can still have a hold at a corner of a believers life due to certain reasons. In the case of this prophet, the devil had a strong hold on his finances.

The devil allowed him serve God in penury. Although it was not stated in the bible, I want to believe part of what led to his death was depression, due to his inability to settle his debts. I also want to believe the debt was much because it will take his two sons becoming slaves to pay for it. What a sad story.

Friend, thank God for your life, most especially your fervency in church and around the things of God but then, what hold is the enemy still having in your life? What area of your life is the devil still using to punish you?

I come to discover that debt and money related issues don’t even respect the anointing. A Prophet, Pastor or an Apostle can be broke and even die of money related issues.
