Limiting a limitless God-2
Psalms 78:41 “Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.”

When God Himself said some people limited Him, it simply means we have to study those folks and understand what they did. Our aim is to know how they limited God, and then watch out for such tendencies and behaviours in our own lives.

The truth is that the Limitless God can be limited by you and I. A man can determine the degree to which he want God to exhibit his powers in his life. God will not go beyond the boundary we set for him.

The Contemporary English Version of that scripture gave another appalling meaning to that verse:

Psalms 78:41 “They kept testing him and caused terrible pain for the Holy One of Israel.”

They not only limited God, they caused Him terrible pains; in order words, mortal men can hurt God.

The question that readily comes to mind is this: “How did they limit God?”. “What exactly did they do?”.

To understand this verse, we need to put it in context.

Psalms 78:40 “How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, [and] grieve him in the desert!”

Psalms 78:41 “They kept testing him and caused terrible pain for the Holy One of Israel.”

Psalms 78:42 “They remembered not his hand, [nor] the day when he delivered them from the enemy.”

Psalms 78:43 “How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:”

To bring the children of Israel out of Egypt, God had to wrought ten powerful miracles, such as never been heard of or seen before. He forcefully brought Israel out and paralysed Egypt.

Pharaoh was the most powerful man on earth in their days, but God fought and finished him off in order to release his people. He swallowed all the gods of Egypt. He turned their water to blood before finally killing all the firstborn child in Egypt and the firstborn of their cattle.
