Limiting a limitless God-1

Limiting a limitless God-1
Psalms 78:41 “Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.”

God is All Mighty and All powerful, He can do anything He chooses to do. He created the whole world. He is greater than all. As a matter of fact He has the whole world in the palm of his hand. The earth is his footstool. His greatness and might is past finding out.

Those are wonderful things to say about God but then, our focal scripture says some little folks on this same planet earth, men of like passions like you and I, limited Him!

What does it mean to limit?

To limit means to place a restriction; a bound beyond which someone or something may not go. It means to set the final, utmost, or furthest point; the border or edge.

It also means to set a boundary, place a cage, barrier or an hindrance on something or someone. It can even be to imprison a person or define the scope of his or her operations. When you curb someone or something or forcefully control his operation, you have invariably limited him.

To place a limit on an entity is therefore a strong word, and saying some creatures limits a creator is something to be critically analysed.

Friend, when you have the knowledge of God and have seen His wonders and you read stuff like this in the Bible, it looks like a paradox. It seems as if the writer is inconsistent but then the writer is God Himself, so if He says He was limited, He must mean it in every sense of the word!

The question that pops up in the mind is; How can an ordinary man whose breath can be taken away from him, within the twinkle of an eye by the same God, be powerful enouugh as to limit Him? How can a man limit God’s scope of operation? Cage God and set boundaries for Him?

You may say it makes no sense, but when God Himself says some people did, it means we have to study those folks and understand what they did.

To be continued…
