Don’t settle in haran-8

Genesis 11:31 “And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.”

Genesis 11:32 “And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.”

…From yesterday…

A vision is like an architectural blue print for a building. It is also a road map to a desired destination. Without a vision you follow every road you see, settle down wherever you get to and run your life without control.

Hear this:

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish but he that keepeth the law, happy is he”

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people are uncontrolled; but he who keeps the law will be happy.” (BBE)

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.” (Darby)

Terah perished in Haran because he lost his vision. He completely forgot about his desired destination. He also lost control of his life and destiny when he got to Haran. Terah completely forgot about Canaan which was the destination he set out for. Friend, this is the plight of many people.

A vision-less life is one without restraint. It makes people live their lives anyhow. In such lives, anything goes. Anywhere is a place of settlement and abode.

There are two critical things to note about vision:

1) A vision makes it impossible for you to do certain things. It puts control and restrictions on your life and destiny. It sets taboos around your life. There are places you cannot go, places you cannot sleep, things you cannot eat and do.

If Terah had known this perhaps he would have known that Haran is a taboo for him. He would have known that he cannot get “married” to Haran.

To be continued…
