Prayer lesson from Rachel: Wrestling for it-1
Genesis 30:22 “And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.”
Genesis 30:23 “Finally, God remembered Rachel–he answered her prayer by giving her a son. “God has taken away my disgrace,” she said.” (CEV)
One other thing Rachel resolved to do was to force her way through, I call this getting it by labour, violence or wrestling. Hear this:
Genesis 30:8 “And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.”
Genesis 30:8 “Rachel said, “I’ve been in an all-out fight with my sister–and I’ve won.” So she named him Naphtali (Fight).” (MSG)
When Rachel saw she couldn’t get what she wanted, she decided to use another strategy when all else failed. She decided to fight her sister for it. She got Naphtali which was an alternative and she claimed it was the result of a fight.
Friend, alternatives are not the option of God for you, what Rachel used is what is called the arms of the flesh. There are things your labour cannot give you. Despite all her wrestling, all she ended up with was Naphtali which simply means fight or violence and you and I know violence will only breed trouble for you.
I once met a lady who said she labours hard for everything she has and doesn’t believe in grace. Well, I took a look at what she has and it wasn’t much!
Beloved, there is something called grace. Grace means God labouring for you and you entering into His labour. There are things you can never get no matter how hard you try and one of such is what Rachel was looking for; a child.
Let me ask you a question Jesus once threw to some folks. He said:
Matthew 6:27 “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”
In order words, what can you do to increase your height? There are things you can’t get no matter how much you stretch.
To be continued…
