Prayer lessons from Rachel: Envy mode-1

Prayer lessons from Rachel: Envy mode-1

Genesis 30:22 “And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.”

Genesis 30:23 “Finally, God remembered Rachel–he answered her prayer by giving her a son. “God has taken away my disgrace,” she said.” (CEV)

Recently as a church we studied the book of Genesis and picked so many vital lessons, we learnt so much especially from Jacob, Rachel and Joseph. Afte the studies the Holy Spirit brought out this vital lesson for me from the life of Rachel.

He simply brought out her story to the fore and I discovered she has so many things in common with many of us in this generation. She lived thousands of years ago but the way she handled her problem is exactly the way many believers handle issues today.

Rachel was the beloved of Jacob. Theirs was love at first sight and all through her life time they were two inseparable love birds.

In the early days of their marriage, there was a major challenge. It was the challenge of childlessness. Jacob loved her deeply but he was mortal, he couldn’t give her a child.

The focus of this meditation is what she did instead of praying to the immortal God who alone gives children and how she eventually got Joseph. We will look at some obstacles the enemy have used to make our problems insurmountable.

When the childlessness persists, Rachel did certain things that I want us to take note of and pick some lessons from.

When she discovered she was childless the first thing she did was to become envious of her sister Leah who already had four children. Envy is a powerful obstacle the enemy puts between us and our success.

Genesis 30:1 “And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.”

I have since discovered that the people that don’t have what you have are the people that easily gets envious of you.

To be continued…
