Psalms 23: Goodness and Mercy-4
Psalms 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
The same Paul wrote about seventy five percent of our New Testament. He didn’t walk physically with Christ but he was one of the men that set the pace and defined Christianity.
If it is today we would have said, “What does a murderer have to say?”
There is only one thing responsible for all that, it is called the Mercy of God.
David said, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” I love the way he presented it, he used the word “surely”.
The word surely is an adverb which means, “without fail”, “with all certainty”, “undoubtedly” and “with confidence”.
Do you know you’re being escorted by goodness and mercy daily and with all certainty? Until you know it to this level it will not work for you. David was so sure of it and so should we. An unshakable faith that these two are always following us activates them to work on our behalf.
Quoting this verse aloud everyday develops this assurance, the more you hear yourself say it, the more you believe it, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
David also added another important fact which we must note, he said, “…all the days of my life”. That’s another statement of certainty. I’ve heard people say, “A man can’t be enjoying good everyday, he must have evil sometimes”.
Well, every man is entitled to their own opinion about life and set up ungodly philosophies but as for me, I choose to believe that my Shepherd only gives me goodness and mercy everyday.
He promised goodness and mercy daily not occasionally or on some days. I wake up expecting goodness and mercy daily and nothing more. That should be the mentality of every believer.
Even when the enemy brings evil attacks, the goodness and mercy of our shepherd turns it around in our favour and for me that settles it!
