​Psalms 23: Goodness and Mercy-2

Psalms 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

…From yesterday…

In the midst of a perverse and evil world our Great Shepherd makes sure we have two ever present “soldiers”; goodness and mercy. 

If there is anything a man needs in life, they’re these two companions. The Goodness of God supplies all our needs while his mercy blots out our sins and makes sure we are always favoured and distinguished.

The goodness of God is God Himself. You can never separate good from God. Hear David again:

Psalms 73:1 “Truly God [is] good…”

Psalms 144:1,2 “Blessed [be] the LORD…My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and [he] in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.”

When we say good in this context, it simply means; To thrive; fatten; prosper; improve. benefit and gain. I love those descriptions!

When you align your life with this Shepherd, he makes sure you thrive, meaning; you grow or increase stature and flourish. Everywhere you go, our Shepherd will make sure you don’t fail or reduce. When you labour he brings gain. 

Isaiah 48:17 “Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I [am] the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way [that] thou shouldest go.”

It is the goodness of God that shows you how to make profit and the path you should follow.

Friend, the benefits of having this Shepherd around are enormous. His presence commands success and improvement in all areas of life.

Psalms 25:7 “Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.”

The mercy of God talks about being forgiven and given preferential treatment by Him everyday. Is God partial?
