Psalm 23: Dark places-1
Psalm 23: Dark places-1
Psalms 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
In life, there are dark places. These are the valleys of the shadow of death. Any path of gloom or sadness; any scene of trouble or sorrow; any dark and dangerous way are the valleys of the shadow of death.
Dark places are real and we cannot dodge them. If we can avoid them, the Psalmist would have said, “He makes me avoid the valley of the shadow of death”, our shepherd knows there are dark places but much more, he knows how to handle them.
Hear this:
Psalms 139:12 “Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light [are] both alike [to thee].”
Psalms 139:12 “It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.”
Friend, that is one powerful scripture about our Great Shepherd. The Bible says, “Night and day, darkness and light are the same before him.” That is one singular reason you cannot afford to travel the journey of life alone.
To us darkness is fearful, scary and deadly. No matter how strong you are, when you see thick darkness you become nervous and jumpy. As a matter of fact you remember every demonic image you’ve ever seen. Darkness connotes fear, demons and evil.
Valley of the shadow of death also talks about low and discouraging moments in our lives. Unpalatable and near death experiences are all associated with this valley.
But here is the gist, it doesn’t scare our Shepherd one bit! Darkness is as clear as broad daylight before Him. Nothing is hidden before him. In those dark places where everything seems bleak and hopeless, he knows just what to do.
He has the map and knows his way around the valley of the shadow of death.
To be continued…
