Psalms 23: Catch your breath-1
Psalms 23:3 “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
Psalms 23:3 “True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.” (MSG)
The journey of life can be tiring and knowing when to relax and catch your breath is essential. If you keep going without resting you might eventually breakdown.
The Hebrew word used for “restoreth” here means: hinder, stop, back off, recover, refresh, relieve and withdraw amongst others. We all need to know when to back off, back down, get a refreshing and relax.
Some times it seems we are being hindered without knowing it is our shepherd trying to make us rest. Many keeps running till they run out of steam and fizzle out because they don’t know when to relax and get renewed and reinvigorated.
Our Shepherd however knows just when to help us do that. When God is our Shepherd and he is leading us, we must understand some basic truths. There is something called the “stops of God”.
Any man who has walked with God for quite some time will understand this. That God is leading does not mean we keep running, flying or walking all through. There are times we must stop and relax. I have travelled before and had a delay only to be told if you had gotten to this spot few minutes ago, you would have run into an armed robbery operation!
How do you explain that? Those are what we call the stops of God. It is not every delay that is dangerous. Some delays are part of God’s plan to make us relax and re-fire us for the next assignment.
No matter how powerful and swift an aircraft is, it must have stops in order to refuel. If it doesn’t refuel it will sure come crashing down. Sometimes God stops us just for “refueling”.
David understood this principle so well. Hear this:
