Combating sleep-3
Combating sleep-3
Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”
…From yesterday…
1 Kings 11:4 “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, [that] his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as [was] the heart of David his father.”
Solomon’s heart was not turned from God until he was old, that is to say, “When the tares matured!” Solomon fell asleep and lost the throne.
Friend, which of your passions is allowing the devil sow tares among your wheat? Remember, you cannot afford to sleep in the race of life because the enemy is always waiting to pounce.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 “But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and [as] a helmet the hope of salvation.”
To stay awake, we must also put on the breastplate of faith and love as well as the helmet of the hope of salvation. Hear this:
Genesis 15:2 “But Abram said, “Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house [is] Eliezer of Damascus?””
Abram made the above statement because he has lost the breastplate of faith and love. The only thing he was seeing was Eliezer, he has shifted his attention from God. Faith is keeping our gaze and focus on God. Whenever we shift our eyes away from God, we fall asleep.
It was no surprise that few years down the line, Abram looked for an alternative to the plan and purpose of God. His sleeping off allowed tares of lack of faith to grow into producing Ishmael before Isaac.
Don’t believe the devil more than you believe God. Don’t you ever quit on God!
Amos 6:1 “Woe to you [who are] at ease in Zion…”
Another way to combat sleep is to refuse to be at ease in Zion. This means you cannot afford to rest on your oars. How do I mean?
To be continued…
