Combating sleep-2
Combating sleep-2
Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”
…From yesterday…
In the same vane we must apply the same method to staying awake spiritually because there are spiritual examinations coming up. We must react against every deployment of hell. We must take the initiative to bounce back from obscurity, ruins and inactivity.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 “But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and [as] a helmet the hope of salvation.”
1 Thessalonians 5:9 “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
To combat sleep, aother thing to do as stated above is to be sober. The word Sober as used here means to be temperate and circumspect.
It means to be moderate; not excessive. It means to have control over our natural appetites and passions; such as eating, drinking, anger, sex and other emotions. It means to always behave in a manner that is not extreme but moderate. It also means to be considerate of all that is pertinent.
King Solomon was not “sober” when it comes to the issue of women and he fell completely asleep. This eventually led to his downfall.
1 Kings 11:1 “But king Solomon loved many strange women..”
1 Kings 11:3 “And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.”
1 Kings 11:4 “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, [that] his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as [was] the heart of David his father.”
Solomon’s heart was not turned from God until he was old, that is to say, “When the tares matured!” Solomon fell asleep and lost the throne.
