Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”
Friend, as we begin to roundup this meditation, we must not fail to talk about how to combat slumber and sleep. Until we understand this principle the devil will continue to take advantage of us.
The main strategy of combating sleep is to wake up and stay awake. If this fellow in our focal scripture woke up when the enemy was trying to sow tares on his wheat farm he would have dealt ruthlessly with the enemy. As a matter of fact he was far more powerful than the enemy, that was why the enemy didn’t come while he was awake.
1 Thessalonians 5:6 “Therefore let us not sleep, as others [do,] but let us watch and be sober.”
1 Thessalonians 5:7 “For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.”
We were adviced not to sleep like others but rather to watch and be sober.
To watch is a Greek word which means; to awake from disease, from death; or figuratively from obscurity, inactivity and ruins. The world is a place of warfare that is why the bible calls us soldiers.
The terrain of the earth is not friendly to our calls and destiny. We must fight the good fight of faith to keep awake. When we sleep the enemy can introduce disease, death, inactivity and so on. We must make up our minds to become fighters.
When we have something important to do at night we always device ways to stay awake. If what we want to do at night is very important for example if we have an examination in the morning we do all we can to stay awake and read.
In the same vane we must apply the same method to staying awake spiritually because there are spiritual examinations coming up. We must react against every deployment of hell. We must take the initiative to bounce back from obscurity, ruins and inactivity.
To be continued…
