Why do men sleep? -4
Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”
…From yesterday…
We look around us and all we see is “unrelenting disappointment” which makes us sad and heartsick, but one thing we must always realise is that God never asks us to look at our situation and jump to conclusion.
He wants us to look unto Him and see the way He sees things. Seeing things the way He does is what is called faith. Never let your faith grow cold. Jesus said:
Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Friend, don’t become unfit by looking back. Keep hope alive, don’t give up on God.
4. COMPLACENCY: Another reason why men fall asleep is what I call complacency. Complacency is a feeling of contented self-satisfaction, especially when unaware of upcoming trouble.
I love that definition. Many people become complacent and switch to a self-satisfaction mode. They have a feeling of fulfillment or contentment with respect to their own accomplishments or situation. Some call it arrival mentality.
These folks feel they are superhuman and infallible. They tell themselves they are without fault or weakness; incapable of error or fallacy. When you think like that or act like that, watch it, you are already fast asleep!
Many times they have perfected an act and they feel they don’t even need to practice again. They neglect the place of training and equipping. A typical example is the Laodicean church.
These folks were not unbelievers, they are born again but along the line they switch to the complacent mode and eventually fell asleep.
Revelation 3:17 “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked” (NKJV)
