Why do men sleep? -1
Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”
This piece is a sequel to “While men slept”, but our focus here is to meditate on reasons why men actually falls asleep.
In the previous meditation, we saw a couple of things that could happen when we sleep off but then, we need to understand what necessitates the dozing or sleeping off.
Note as previously discussed that the “sleeping off” we are discusskng here is not physical but spiritual, however, the causes are very similar. Let’s begin to examine them:
1. TIREDNESS: The number one cause of men sleeping off spiritually is what I call spiritual tiredness or exhaustion. The same way a man gets tired physically, he can get tired spiritually.
Genesis 25:29 “And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he [was] faint:”
The Bible says, Esau came from the field and was faint or very tired. Remember this:
Matthew 13:24 “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:”
Both Esau and the man the devil joined tares to both worked in the field. The field represents the place of assignment. A place of destiny fulfilment.
Many times when we go about our divine assignments in the fields of life, we get tired and weary due to work. It’s alright to be weary since we are human but the danger is what we do when we get tired or weary.
When we are tired we are vulnerable and if care is not taken we fall prey to the devil’s antics. Esau got tired which was okay since he has been working but then he went and ate from “his enemy’s” table!
When we are tired, we are vulnerable and the enemy is always waiting for this moment to offer us an irresistible deal. Esau was tired and he went for the devil’s alternate “source of energy”, how sad!
