While men slept-2
Matthew 13:25 “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.”
2 Samuel 11:2 “And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman [was] very beautiful to look upon.”
We can see another definition of sleep here; it means to be at the wrong place at the wrong time or even at the the right place at a wrong time. David completely dozed and slept off. He became spiritually careless.
Another example was the case of Ishmael. The man Ishmael was not the problem and still not is, the problem was not even his mother Hagar. To shock you, the problem was not Sarai, Abram’s wife who suggested he sleeps with their housemaid. You know we easily blame Sarai for the whole mess.
The problem was all about Abram sleeping off. How do I mean?
Genesis 12:10 “And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine [was] grievous in the land.”
Abram slept off completely. He got to the land God asked him to go and the first thing he encountered was famine but instead of asking the One who was leading him. He reasoned that since there was food in Egypt he should just go there to escape the famine. He just moved to Egypt without consulting God.
Another definition of “slept” from here is; “To act independent of God or to use human ideas and wisdom to interpret spiritual matters”.
Abram jumped to Egypt and guess what happened when he was leaving? Pharaoh enriched him and part of the gift he took away from Egypt was Hagar. He slept off and the devil sowed tares among his seed!
Sarai didn’t even give him the suggestion to sleep with Hagar immediately, until years later when the “tares” the devil had sown was grown and matured.
To be continued…
