People that hinder us: THE OLD PROPHET-1

People that hinder us: THE OLD PROPHET-1

Galatians 5: 7 “Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?”

Today we will consider the people I call the OLD PROPHETS. In the book of 1 Kings 13, we were introduced to a young prophet from Judah.

The bible says he was “a man of God out of Judah”. Each time I read this portion of scripture I always weep for the young man.

If his life didn’t end the way it sadly ended, I guess he would have been one of the greatest if not the greatest prophet to ever come out of Judah. Why did I say so?

1 Kings 13:4 “And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up so that he could not pull it in again to him.”

1 Kings 13:5 “The altar also was rent and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.”

1 Kings 13:6 “And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again and became as it was before.”

Can you imagine that? Every prophecy he gave came to pass as he declared them. A whole king even attempted to catch him and the hand he stretched towards him withered immediately.

The king apologized and begged the young prophet to restore his hand and he spoke to God and the king’s hand was restored immediately.

The young prophet discusses with God as if they live in the same apartment. God honoured everything he said with immediate alacrity.

To be continued…
