People that hinder us: Elymas-2
Galatians 5: 7 “Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?”
That is why Paul said:
1Corinthians 16:9 “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries”.
These set of adversaries are the Elymas’, always waiting at your point of breakthrough and fulfilment. They always hang around “great and effectual doors”. Their main aim is to shut those doors.
In Acts 13, Sergius Paulus who was called a prudent man and the deputy of the country sent for Barnabas and Saul. A prudent man shows a good, wise and kind hearted fellow who was willing to attend to these men of God.
In our contemporary days, he can be likened to the vice president of a nation. In order words the second most powerful man in the nation sent for Barnabas and Saul. That was a great and effectual door. It was great because if they succeed in bringing him to Christ that country will open to them.
Sergius could easily introduce them to all the opinion leaders in that country and make the work of evangelism easy for them but there was a challenge. Elymas was already waiting for them at the house of the vice president. His mission was to withstand and stop them.
These folks are still very much around in our days. They hang around the corridors of power. They really don’t have ideas of their own but are ready to stop anyone who has an opinion contrary to theirs.
Once they see a man with a bright idea that can easily overshadow theirs they get defensive and hatch a plan to stop him. They use falsehood to operate and will do whatever it takes to stop others from hearing the truth.
The bible called him a false prophet and his name Elymas means a wizard or sorcerer. They even go as far as using demonic powers to try to stop us.
So how do I handle an Elymas?
To be continued…
