Judges 7:2 “And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying Mine own hand hath saved me.”
In our focal scripture, Gideon had followed God’s instruction of pulling down the strange altars and grove and was now ready to go out against Midian. He assembled a “great team” of men who are to follow him to battle. He has a total of thirty two thousand fighters with him.
Just when he was expecting the command from God to attack the enemy, he received a rather strange and shocking instruction. God told him that the men with him are too many!
That might not make much sense until you read this:
Judges 7:12 “And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.”
Gideon was about to confront a troop almost without number and God is saying thirty two thousand was too much! I once heard a bible commentator said, “The enemy against Gideon couldn’t have been less than one hundred and thirty thousand”.
Thirty two thousand against about one hundred and thirty thousand was already looking like a suicide mission but God said they are too many. Beloved, the calculation and computations of God are far different from our own.
Friend, the truth is that, it is you who thinks you need twenty million in cash to start that business but definitely not God.
The reason you’ve not been able to start that business, school, career or project is because you’re not listening to God. He has been telling you that the money you’re waiting for is too much, but you won’t listen.
Perhaps you even think you need hundreds of people to support you. God is saying I can’t work with that number. Many a times our problem is that we always think majority carries the vote.
