Destroy the altar and grove-2
Judges 6: 25 “And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:”
2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
When you behold or worship the glory of God, the Spirit of God metamorphose, transfigure or transforms you into the glory of the same image of God. That was why king David said:
Psalms 135:18 “THEY THAT MAKE THEM ARE LIKE UNTO THEM: SO IS EVERY ONE THAT TRUSTETH IN THEM.”
When you serve an idol, the demonic spirit behind the idol transforms you into the same image of the idol.
There is power in worship because you become the image you worship and adore by the operation of the spirit behind the image!
Friend, make sure you “…have no other gods beside HIM.” (Exodus 20:3)
The second reason I saw for the instruction given to Gideon is that, you cannot accommodate what you are assigned to eliminate.
My father in the Lord said, “An instrument that God has set as a standard to correct error must not permit error in itself.”
The assignment of Gideon was to destroy the Midianites and save Israel. The altar of Baal and the grove were the gods and goddesses of their enemies. Keeping those gods is tantamount to worshipping the same gods he was assigned to destroy.
Let me bring it home, I have seen people preach about forgiveness when they have sworn not to forgive somebody that hurt them. I have seen “smoking” doctors tell patients that “smokers are liable to die young!”
Now I know you have a clear picture of what I am talking about. Jesus said:
