Destroy the altar and grove-1
Destroy the altar and grove-1
Judges 6: 25 “And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:”
We have seen the altar of Baal and the grove. We have equally seen what they represent, but the question is why did God ask Gideon to destroy them first?
The Holy Spirit showed me three reasons; permit me to discuss them with you.
The first reason He showed me is this: We become what we worship. Let me explain:
Psalms 135:15 “The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.”
Psalms 135:16 “They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;”
Psalms 135:17 “They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.”
Psalms 135:18 “THEY THAT MAKE THEM ARE LIKE UNTO THEM: SO IS EVERY ONE THAT TRUSTETH IN THEM.”
The major danger of worshipping idols is that “they that make them are like them”. That’s a very sad one. The truth is that; you become like the one you worship.
If the altar and grove you worship is money, you become materialistic. If it is wrong relationships, you develop wrong characters.
If you worship fashion, you start looking like your fashion idol. You dress like him or her; you speak like him as well. No wonder you see many youths sag their trousers. They’re becoming like their idols.
If you worship yourself, you become selfish.
If you worship the One and True Living God, you become like Him! God created us to worship Him in order to make us like Him.
2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
