​Mighty but Timid-2

Judges 6:11 “And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.” 

Judges 6:12 “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.”

…From yesterday…

A great warrior, son of God, birthed by God, aided and greatly helped by God, possessor of the Land; that sounds like a very intimidating resume. That was the man Gideon. 

But friend, despite all those super qualities, Gideon was threshing wheat by a wine press for fear of the Moabites. The destroyer of the enemies of Israel was hiding away from the same enemies he was designed and assigned to conquer. Gideon the mighty has become timid.

This young man has no understanding of who God had made him. The angel added two other qualities to the list, he calls him, “…mighty man of valour”. The word mighty has used here means champion, strong or giant; while valour means power, army and riches.

In order God made Gideon a powerful and wealthy champion. A man of great strength; influence and power. 

How does this apply to us? Friend, the description of Gideon is very much like the New Testament believer (You and I). Gideon however typifies an ignorant believer.

Many believers have received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Like Gideon, we are birthed by God and become the sons of God. The help of God has been made available to us. We have been empowered and enabled to succeed by the Holy Spirit yet many remain timid, helpless, poor and discouraged because of the encampment of the enemy. 

Beloved, we are not ordinary men and women. We have been purchased by the most precious blood you can ever think of; the blood of Jesus Christ himself. 

Timidity is not in the dictionary of champions and warriors like our Lord Jesus Christ.
