Lessons from Gideon
Judges 6:8 “That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;”
Judges 6:9 “And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;”
Testimony is an account of first-hand experience; an evidence or proof of some facts. It talks about a deed or a supernatural act that has been experienced in time past.
In our focal scripture, the Children of Israel cried out to God because of the encampment of the Moabites against them and the Lord responded by sending them a prophet. The prophet didn’t come for fun, he brought a word from God to them.
What fascinated me was the nature of the word he brought. God didn’t start by telling them, He will bail them out and rescue them. The statement was simply a reminder of what He had done for them in time past. God sent them testimonies.
Here is the gist, the reason we cry and feel discouraged when challenges comes, thereby allowing the enemy get the better of us in most cases is because we forget the previous acts of God.
The testimony of God’s previous acts in our lives is a weapon against the assault of the devil. Past testimonies are potent weapons in our spiritual arsenal that is capable of incapacitating the enemy. Hear this:
Revelation 12:7 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,”
The bible told us here that there was war in heaven. The devil made war but Michael and his angels fought him. They fought the devil and finally pushed him down to earth.
Revelation 12:9 “And the great dragon was cast out that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world…”
