Lessons from Gideon

Judges 6:1 “And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.”

Beloved, over the next couple of days we will be picking some important lessons from the life of the children of Israel and in particular a Judge called Gideon. 

In our focal scripture for today, we ht too many wars. I also wonder why they seem to have too many issues with their surrounding neighbours. 

The Israelites kept going in and out of battles and slavery and I wonder why? They fought with the Midianites, Philistines, Jebusites, Amorites and so on. There were too many wars to fight and it seems peace was alien to them.

As I was meditating on these issues, I discovered something that caught my fancy. The children of Israel never had issues with all those enemies, the only problem they kept having was with Go

As strange as it may sound, that was it. Their only issue has been with God all along. It is their issue with God that opened them up to the attacks of the enemy. 

In our focal scripture, they did evil against God and the Midianites took them captives. 

Friend, every time we sin against God by disobeying His commandments we open ourselves up to the enemy. The enemies are there no doubt but our disobedience gives them licence to afflict and terrorise us.

Every act of disobedience opens a door to the enemy. Once you have an unresolved issue with God you weaken your defence mechanism.

Friend, many times why the enemy seems to be having an upper hand in our affairs is due largely to an act of disobedience more often than nouss.
