Breaking the Esau Code
Genesis 27:40 “By your sword you shall live, And you shall serve your brother; And it shall come to pass, when you become restless, That you shall break his yoke from your neck.”(NKJV)
Isaac told Esau to live by the word and afterwards to serve. Service is another powerful key in the success equation as given to Esau by Isaac.
Isaac said, “…You shall serve your brother…”, looking at it on the surface, it looks like reduction and belittling, but when Jesus showed up he proved to us beyond all reasonable doubt that serving is actually a route to the top!
Serving his brother looked like a curse, especially if you only look at it from a religious point of view; but in the light of Jesus’ New Testament teaching it is a blessing in disguise.
Matthew 20:27 “And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:”
Matthew 20:28 “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Matthew 23:11 “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”
The background to the above incidence was the action of the mother of two of his disciples, James and John. This woman showed up one day with a strange request:
Matthew 20:20 “It was about that time that the mother of the Zebedee brothers came with her two sons and knelt before Jesus with a request.”
Matthew 20:21 “What do you want?” Jesus asked. She said, “Give your word that these two sons of mine will be awarded the highest places of honor in your kingdom, one at your right hand, one at your left hand.” (MSG)
This woman came and met Jesus and told him she wanted him to elevate her two sons as his two major assistants. This action and statement prompted rage among the others, as they flared u
Matthew 20:24 “When the ten others heard about this, they lost their tempers, thoroughly disgusted with the two brothers.” (MSG)
