LIVING BY THE SWORD-2
Breaking the Esau Code
LIVING BY THE SWORD-2
Genesis 27:40 “By your sword you shall live, And you shall serve your brother; And it shall come to pass, when you become restless, That you shall break his yoke from your neck.”(NKJV)
…From yesterday…
Now, to our main focus in this piece. The big question we want to answer is this: how did Esau make it? How was it possible for him to achieve greatness and wealth proportional to that of his brother?
After Jacob stole his blessing, he came to his father and begged him to give him just one blessing.
Genesis 27:35 “And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.”
Genesis 27:38 “And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, [even] me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.”
He asked for just one blessing but his father went ahead and made a pronouncement that doesn’t sound much of a blessing to me.
Genesis 27:39 “And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;”
Genesis 27:40 “And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.”
What Isaac said sounded more like a curse, but then, few years down the line Esau became great, riding on what his father said.
Let’s now take a critical look at what Isaac said and gleean some wisdom from it.
The first major thing he said to Esau was this, “By your sword you shall live…” (Genesis 27:40)
This sounds like violence and of course made Esau look like a wild wicked man, but beloved, here is the truth: You will never go far in life if you are not living by the sword!
If you don’t understand how to live by the sword, you will die cheaply.
To be continued…
