Most Precious-5
Genesis 22:2 “And he said Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”
…From yesterday…
David needed to offer peace sacrifice unto God and he got strict order from Prophet Gad on where to offer the sacrifice.
2 Samuel 24:18 ” And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.”
God chose the location and David went there. The place was the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite. On seeing David and his men, Araunah asked what they wanted and they told him.
The man was so excited that he gave the place and the other instruments of sacrifice to King David at no cost.
The man was doing his king a great favour as far as he was concerned, but his king knew he was answerable to the King of kings and knew what his own king required of him.
David made that profound statement,”…NAY; BUT I WILL SURELY BUY IT OF THEE AT A PRICE: NEITHER WILL I OFFER BURNT OFFERINGS UNTO THE LORD MY GOD OF THAT WHICH DOTH COST ME NOTHING.”
In order words, David was saying, “I won’t offer anything short of Isaac”. God choose the place of the sacrifice and David knew he had to give his best or nothing.
Friend, if you were David that day, what would you do? Search your heart and check your pulse rate. I am sure majority of us would simply kneel down and given thanks and praises to God for providing the place and the items of sacrifice free of charge, but not David. He knew what it means for God to ask a man for “Isaac”.
Friend, David was called a man after God’s own heart and Abraham was called the friend of God. One thing that won them those titles was their disposition towards the things of God.
To be continued…
