The Adventure -1
Genesis 22: 1 “And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said Behold, here I am.”
Today we will be starting a new series. In this piece we will be picking lessons from ABRAHAM’S SACRIFICE OF ISAAC. The general Topic will be SACRIFICING ISAAC, under which we will have different sub-titles.
Let’s start off by considering this topic, “The Adventure”.
The passage began with the words, “And it came to pass after these things…” The question is after which things?
I flipped back to the previous two to three chapters and noticed some very interesting stuff in the life of Abraham.
By now Abraham had become very wealthy and powerful. He was not just one of the rich men in town; he had become as wealthy if not richer than nations. Abraham had become so influential that President of nations was signing peace treaties with him.
Genesis 21: 22 “And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying God is with thee in all that thou doest”
Genesis 21: 23 “Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned”
Genesis 21: 24 “And Abraham said I will swear”
Note that Abimelech was one of the most powerful kings or presidents in their days. He had one of the strongest armies around and the name of his Chief of Defense Staff was Phicol.
Not only was Abraham wealthy, he now has a son in his old age called Isaac. He had waited twenty five years for this miracle and now it has gotten to his hand. Abraham was indeed a fulfilled man. He had rest all around him.
To be continued…
