Beyond the Tower of Bethel and Edar-5

Beyond the Tower of Bethel and Edar-5
Genesis 35: 21 “And Israel journeyed and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.”
…From yesterday…
The interesting thing about this man and the great lesson I learnt from his story is that he always “journeyed from or beyond” his present location.
Here is the gist: Jacob or Israel, as he is also called, understood a basic principle of God. It is called the principle of progress.
In the plan of God, progress is a must. It doesn’t matter what your situation is, God expects you to make progress.
Jacob “hit it big” at Bethel when he spoke with God. It was one of the high moments of his life. But then, he went ahead, he continued his journey, he made progress. He did not settle down to that; he moved on.
Jacob didn’t sit at the place of one accomplishment. I am sure if it were to be some people he would have simply relaxed at Bethel, set up a church and name it “MEETING GOD FACE TO FACE ASSEMBLY”! You would hear captions like “Meet with God for a Fee!”
He would probably start selling the sand, water, trees and other plants in the place. He would have commercialised the place! But not Jacob! The bible says he moved on from there.
At the second place, he experienced so much sadness; he set up a tower but still moved on beyond it.
Beloved, what have you achieved that you have built a monument around and started worshipping? Several people have built monuments around past successes, thus blinding them from better things ahead.
I am always afraid of men who are quick to flash their certificates of achievements of fifteen or twenty years ago. Some even try to oppress others with the achievements of their forefathers. They brag about their past victory as if it just happened yesterday.
I have since discovered that the man whose yesterday’s achievement still looks to him like his best is certainly not doing much today. He has “tabernacle” at Bethel!
To be continued…
