Genesis 21:19 “And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.’
As we begin to round up this meditation, let us take another look at our focal scripture. I nearly jumped this point, but the Holy Spirit brought it back to me. It was silent, but I believe the Holy Spirit has something He wants us to see there.
The Bible says, “…she went, and filled the bottle with water…”. Here is the gist, Hagar reused the bottle of water Abraham gave her. The bottle seemed to have served its purpose when the water finished but then Hagar used it to fetch water from the well God showed her.
We can pick one or two lessons from this act. The first thing I see here is that there is always something positive to pick up from our past failures and disappointments. There is a lesson to be learnt that can serve us well for the future.
Hagar could have broken the bottle in anger when the water finished, but she didn’t, if she had done that she would have had difficulty in drinking from the well.
Friend, your past experience might have been bitter, sorrowful and disappointing, but I want you to know it contains something that will be useful in the future! It could be a lesson that will come in handy in the future or even an item that will eventually help you in the future.
If Hagar had thrown the bottle away she would have for sure have gotten the well, but her son might have died for lack of what to use to fetch water from it. That’s the honest truth.
Beloved, I want you to reconsider that past experience, what’s in it that will benefit you in the nearest future? That relationship you want to walk away from, will it still be of use to you in future? Be careful the way you close doors. Don’t slam them, close them gently.
