Genesis 21:10 “Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, [even] with Isaac.”
…From yesterday…
Now, what lessons can we pick from here?
One, don’t be a Sarah that will use people and dump them. Don’t promise people heaven and earth just because you need them at that moment, only to discard them like a piece of rubbish. I have seen leaders do this several times.
Beloved, what goes around comes around. You may do it and think that will be all, but the law of seedtime and harvest will catch up with you.
I am not surprised when some few years down the line the great grandchildren of Ishmael took the great grandson of Isaac and sold him into slavery to their mother’s land, Egypt!
Genesis 37:28 “By that time the Midianite traders were passing by. His brothers pulled Joseph out of the cistern and sold him for twenty pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites who took Joseph with them down to Egypt. ”
Genesis 39:1 “After Joseph had been taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelites, Portiphar an Egyptian, one of Pharaoh’s officials and the manager of his household, bought him from them.” (MSG)
Hmm … seedtime and harvest! Sarah by this time was long dead, but the seed she had sown germinated into something terrible that came back to haunt her descendants. The children of the bondwoman came and made her own child a “bond child” as well.
Hagar must have told Ishmael what Sarah did to them and he in turn told his children, and they were on the lookout for revenge. If you check all through Scriptures, these two descendants from the same father became perennial enemies and the reality of this enmity is still with us to this very day.
The second lesson to learn here is that it is only God that can make a promise and keep it.
To be continued…
