Genesis 20:1 “And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.”
Genesis 20:2 “And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.”
…From yesterday…
The devil always waits to pounce, so why walk into his trap? Abraham walked into the Gérar trap.
Friend, if there is a place to avoid, it is definitely Gérar. Don’t even visit the place.
Abraham “briefly” appeared in Gerar on this particular day and lost Sarah! He told a lie to protect himself, but the lie couldn’t add up or protect him. Every trip to Gerar will make you lie and lose precious possessions. Don’t be fooled.
Beloved, embrace this new life in Christ, run after him like nothing else and everything you think is attractive in Gerar will keep running after you. How I wish Abraham knew this.
Matthew 6:31 “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?”
Matthew 6:32 “(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Stay in Kadesh and Shur; stay holy and protected, and every good thing will locate you there.
Each time you step out of Kadesh, you’re stepping out of God’s will and inviting trouble.
I guess after reading the conclusion of the story you might say that after all God still protected him and Abimelech gave him gifts.
Sure! But the issue is that that was not the first time Abraham went on this type of “sojourns”. Recall what happened to him earlier on:
Genesis 12:10 “And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to SOJOURN there; for the famine [was] grievous in the land.” (Emphasis mine)
