Keep Away from Gerar-3
Genesis 20:1 “And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.”
Genesis 20:2 “And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.”
…From yesterday…
We are not told how many times Abraham sneaked into Gerar; but one day he made one of those brief trips there and something terrible happened:
Genesis 20:2 “And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.”
Each time he made the trip, Abimelech, King of Gerar admired his pretty wife Sarah. Then, one day, he sent and took her! The Hebrew word “took Sarah” means he sent and “seized her” or forcefully abducted her. How sad!
Friend, any time we wonder into the devil’s zone he always looks out for what to steal or seize from us. He watches and sets traps until he succeeds. Remember this:
John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.”
The devil is always on the lookout for what to steal, kill and destroy; we must be careful and watchful.
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
1 Peter 5:8 “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.” (MSG)
The devil always waits to pounce; why walk into his trap? Abraham walked into the Gérar trap.
Friend, if there is a place to avoid, it is definitely Gérar. Don’t even visit the place.
Abraham “briefly” appeared in Gerar on this particular day and lost Sarah! He told a lie to protect himself, but the lie couldn’t add up or protect him.
To be continued…
