Keep Away from Gerar-2
Genesis 20:1 “And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.”
Genesis 20:2 “And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.”
…From yesterday…
The Hebrew word Gerar means “a lodging place”, “to chew the cud” and “to drag away”!
I am sure you’re adding it up now. Abraham was always sneaking out to a temporary lodging place, a place that dragged him away from holiness. Abraham, like some animals, was chewing the cud, albeit occasionally.
Friend, Abraham was like a dog that always returns to his vomit from time to time!
Beloved, this is the position of several believers. God has saved us and given us his very holiness. He has brought us to a place of safety and security. He has given us his perfect will for our lives and destiny, yet we prefer to sneak out to Gerar from time to time.
Many love the new life in Christ but are still attracted to the old life they left behind. Many have quit smoking and drinking, but still feel taking “a bottle” once in a while doesn’t spoil anything. Many still sneak out to hang around some demonic stuff just because it looks harmless.
Friend, there is nothing attractive in satanic stuffs. The devil’s stuffs are always sugar-coated, but deep down inside is deadly bitterness.
Nothing on earth can be compared to our new life in Christ. What we have is eternal life, the very life of God, Zoe! That’s what makes God tick, and he handed it over to us! There is nothing Satan offers that can compare to it. Beware!
We are not told how many times Abraham sneaked into Gerar, but one day he made one of those brief trips there and something terrible happened:
Genesis 20:2 “And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.”
To be continued…
