Grave Clothes
John 11:44 “And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.”
As we draw the curtain on this meditation, I want us to consider another interesting thing that concerns you and me. I title this: grave clothes.
The gist is this: many people have heeded the call of Jesus and have come out from the grave just like Lazarus, but they are still wrapped in grave clothes!
Lazarus came out truly, but he still had the grave clothes on.
Several believers have come to the knowledge of Christ, get committed in church, speak in tongues, etc. but still smell like the world!
Friend, you don’t need to smell like your past. You can’t afford to be dressed like a man in the grave. What is a living soul like you doing among the dead? You are a new creature; you should live the new life in Christ and not continue your old ways.
Many are born again but still move around with dead works, works of the flesh. Paul met the Ephesus believers and made some appealing statements to them:
Ephesians 4:28 “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.”
Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
Ephesians 4:31 “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice”
Yes, these folks were born again; they were out of the grave but still walking around in grave clothes!
I don’t know what grave clothes are on you; yours could be tradition and religion, unbelief, discouragement or negative thoughts. It’s time to get rid of them.
Hebrews 9:14 “…purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God”, Selah!
